Four years ago today, I took my first A+ certification test (hardware). After I finished (and passed!) and walked towards the exit, I noticed several people gathered around the radio. I figured it was nothing... just someone listening to the daily give-aways of some radio station.
In my car, I listened to a CD since my talk shows didn't start until the afternoon. I was still completely oblivious to what had happened.
That day was the installation for our new cable service (switched from another). We hadn't had cable for a few days, so all we had at the time were the broadcasted local channels. I remember seeing the smoke, the repeating footage of planes hitting the towers, the smoking Pentagon, and the fallen plane in Pennsylvania. The cable installer took a moment to watch as well, when he had our digital service up and running.
I readied myself for work... not really wanting to go. I wanted to sit there and absorb everything. At work, everyone had either a radio, small TV, or some other form of information (internet radio; although it was against the company policy) always on, always monitoring the news.
I remember the anger. The anger I felt when I heard many Muslim people in this great country cheered when the attacks came. I remember wishing I had met one... so that I could "greet" him (read: place my balled up hand, with great force, squarely in the middle of his face). I still feel the anger, especially after seeing the video on Foo's site.
I remember the brave people who stormed the Twin Towers to rescue those still trapped inside; the people that gave their lives so that others may live.
I encourage everyone to sit and reflect on that day. I know I will never forget. No one should.
