Ahhhh Some Time

The past six weeks have been a fast-paced ride. Two chapters of Professional Ajax are turned in, and I have 1.5 chapters left. The next chapters require some preparation, so I gotta get everything ready for it. This little time allows me to start work on a few things I've wanted to for a while. One of which is the XWebMenu.

Since its release, I've received quite a bit of email offering suggestions, questions, and feature requests. Unfortunately, I've changed so much since that initial release that adding more features is a difficult task without mucking up the already mucked up code. So guess what that means? Rewrite! The good news is it'll be more developer friendly, and may even support Opera (dunno about that one). The bad news is I'm lazy! I've got a spec sheet, though, of everything that people have asked for, plus a few ideas that have been on the table for a while.

I also started work on a redesign. The current design just looks old to me. I have a few things laid down in Photoshop, and I'm waiting for more inspiration to bring the thing to life. I want something familiar while having aspects not currently implemented on other sites. Back in the days of WD (Wielders of the Darkside), we had a sweet site that always had stuff competing clans didn't have. Of course, that was in an age when DHTML was relatively new, and people weren't using it. We'll see what comes of it; I may scrap the whole thing before it's laid down into a template.
