Tim posted about the whole
Linda Ronstadt thing, and I whole heartedly agree with him.
This is one of the reasons I don't get very political on this site. Yeah, I am entitled to my opinion, but here's the kicker: so is everyone else. If I throw my opinion out there, I should be prepared for the consequences of doing so. I can't help but think about the whole Dixie Chicks thing last year. Natalie Maines, one of the members, said a few things about our President, and many fans reacted by destroying and not buying their music. Yes, she had every right to do what she did, but the people that got her to where she is have the right to do what they did, too.
Let me apply that to this site. I love web development; I would love to do it for a living. If I go and proudly post my political viewpoints I run the risk of losing a job opprotunity. Sure, it's not fair (who said this world is fair?), but freedom of speech is a two way street. Just as I have the right to post whatever I want, a client or company has the right to hire (or not hire) me based upon the viewpoints I express on this site. It sucks, yeah, but welcome to life.
This is another reason why I haven't rushed to put in a comment component. This is my site, I pay the monthly fee for hosting, and I pay the upkeep of the domain name. I have the right to say what I want as does everyone else. However, I also have the right to not want to read someone's response. When I finally get around to adding in comments, you can be sure that I'll add in a "disable" feature to turn comments off for certain posts.
