I love music. My first year in college was spent as a music education major (when I went to class, that is). My musical likes vary quite a bit, actually. I like classical (especially 20th century classical), rock, grunge, some rap, and very little pop.
Lately, I’ve been pressed to find music that fits my liking. The last album I bought was Link Park’s
Meteora, but I’ve bought quite a few individual songs off of iTunes consisting of some
Rob Dougan, Fiona Apple, and Mason Williams (the guy who wrote
Classical Gas), but I need some awesome rock. I’ve been waiting for Audioslave to release a new album (it’s been about 2 years) and I wouldn’t mind more Linkin Park. I’m getting tired of the stuff I have, and it during times like this that I revert back to some old music I haven’t listened to in a while.
Enter Silverchair. While I’m not a fan of their sophomore album (or anything after it, actually), I love their debut album
Frogstomp. This is one of the rare albums that I can listen from start to end without changing songs. I love it, and I can’t believe I’ve forgotten to hit that area in my playlist.
I want something new and fresh. The only problem is I’m picky. I’m still stuck in the early to mid 1990s where grunge was the thing, and bands like Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, and Rage Against the Machine were in their prime. It is hard to fill a void when hardly anything fits. Audioslave, as of right now, fits the mold the best. The combination of Chris Cornell and Rage’s music trio is awesome. Granted, there are a few songs I could live without, but I at least want more of them. Tom Morello is a brilliant guitarist (one that has inspired the way I play), and I can usually depend upon the Rage trio to bring good beats combined with awesome riffs. Give it to me already!
I’m out of luck. There’s always the chance that I’ll stumble upon a band and dig it, but I’m not optimistic. <sigh />
