Man, what a day. I went up to the office just like any other day to pick up my assignments. Right when I was about to leave to head out to the schools, we start getting calls about a virus that's being caught by our antivirus system. Netsky.C showed us its face.
We think the original machine on our network to be infected was someone high up the ladder. Then the superintendent caught it (from the other person); so naturally everyone in these two people's mailing lists get hit by the virus, and no one is going to say no to a message from the superintendent.
Thankfully, the auto-block feature in OE and Outlook saved many people from getting the virus. There were a few, however, that had turned that feature off. I think this has proven that we should do one of two things:
1. Have the organization that provides our email install antivirus software that scans every piece of email coming through.
2. Set up a web application for sharing documents and memos.
Something needs to be done. While stuff like this is job-security, I would rather have tighter network/email security so that we don't have another Blaster sweep through. Netsky.C very well could have spread just as quickly on just as many workstations if we hadn't of caught it in time (and if certain settings were disabled in email clients).
