I was driving with my wife earlier today and "Numb" by Linkin Park came on the radio. LP is one of my favorite bands, so naturally I enjoy the times when music I like comes on the station she likes. But wait... they sped it up?!?!?!? Wha?!?!?!? Why?!?!?!? I don't have perfect pitch by any means (I have more of a relative pitch), but I could tell it was sped up by the higher pitch. Again..... Why?!?!?!? Is rock so hard on pop-listeners that it has to be sped up in order to get it over quicker?
Since I'm on the subject of music, I also want to express my disheartenment about the Grammy nominations. I like Audioslave, but they're nominated for the "Best Rock Performance" on a very boring song! I can think of at least four songs on that album that blow "Like a Stone" away; heck, I even find it hard to classify "Like a Stone" as a rock song. I would've picked either Cochise or Shadow on the Sun (perhaps even "Bring Em Back Alive" - I love the main riff). But hey, I'm just a measly consumer still stuck in the hard rock scene of the early to late 90's.
