I good friend of mine pointed me to this article from Gamespot about an upcoming game from LucasArts (LEC): Star Wars: Battlefront. While this news has me anticipating its release, I cannot help but wonder if the game will live up to my expectations.
Rumor has it that Pandemic is developing the game. While console gamers may love this idea, I do not. Let's face the facts: since Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight was released, LEC has not released a decent multiplayer game. Jedi Knight 2 and 3 failed miserably (choosing the Q3 engine and Raven to develop it was a very poor choice), Star Wars Galaxies is only so-so, Battlegrounds held nothing new except a different look for Age of Empires, Rebellion was enjoyable (but lacked many aspects that would make the game much more enjoyable) and the list goes on. Since Jedi Knight 1 , I have not played a LEC-published game religously. None can hold my attention, and I fear that Battlefront will fall into the same category.
I would feel much better about the game if LEC decided to license the BF1942 engine and hire Trauma Studios to develop the game. LEC would definately win back my business, and my fear of purchasing one of their games would be soothed.
Unfortunately, I must watch this game with a wary eye until I know for certain that the game will be worth my $50 and my time. Only time will tell.
